Lesson Two - Page 2 Empty Re: Lesson Two

Post by Guest Mon 19 Jul 2010, 12:51

Lawrence struggles to hide his chuckles at Raven struggling with his chests. Slowly he turns to his own chest, and grips his wand loosely in his hand. He practices the wand movement for a moment, making sure to watch his aim. He did not want to miss like he did in the last class. Finally sure he has the movement right, he adds the incantation, "Alohamora.."

    *click*

To the boys utter surprise, the first chest lid pops up before settling in place. Very carefully the boy lifts the lid off to reveal the next chest. Carefully, he aims again, "Alohamora!"

Lawrence grins proudly as the second chest pops open. 'This charm is easier than I thought!' Realizing he is getting over confident, he takes a deep breathe before moving on. Staying calm through the next three boxes, he quickly gets to his prize and his homework. He sets the candy and homework aside so he can reassemble the boxes. When he is done, he pulls out a quill and ink, and gets started on his homework.

    Lawrence's Homework wrote:

    Homework
    1. Incantation is what?

    The incantation is Alohamora.

    2. How many chests are you unlocking today?
There are a total of Five Chest Boxes.

    3. What chapter is this in?
The information on Alohamora can be found in Chapter Seven.

    4. What is this normally used on?
The Alohamora charm is used to unlock an object that is locked either with a low level locking charm, or a physical lock.

    5. What is inside the chest?
Inside the first chest was four more chests, a bag of candy, and the homework. Inside the second chest was three more chests, a bag of candy, and the homework. Inside the third chest was two more chests, a bag of candy, and the homework. Inside the fourth chest was one more final chest, a bag of candy, and the homework. Inside the final chest was a bag of candy and the homework.

Lawrence sighs heavily, sitting back in his chair and putting his quill down. That last answer took forever to write out.

Will took a deep breath and eyed the chest suspiciously. While he was steadily gaining foot in the levitation spell, he wasn't sure if an unlocking spell would do.

Pointing his wand, he muttered the charm. "Alohomora!" To his shock, the chest shook, but nothing more. It was better than nothing.

It took ten tries to open the first one and he had a haunting suspicion that someone may have unlocked it themselves because of how pathetic he looked. Nevertheless, he groaned when he saw the second chest.

"Merlin..." He palmed his face before trying again. He tried to concentrate, finding that focusing on his mother yielded positive results in charms. Surprisingly, he got it open on the fourth try when he did it.

The locks seemed to become more difficult as he reached the fourth and smallest chest. He took a minute to concentrate on his mother's voice before summoning the words. "Alohomora." The locked clicked and inside it was a bag of candy and a piece of parchment which seemed to be homework.

He couldn't even cheer because he was suddenly exhausted with his magic in this round. Getting past his problem was more difficult than he thought.

Warily, he got to his homework. He felt like passing out.

    1. Incantation is what? Alohomora

    2. How many chests are you unlocking today? Five.

    3. What chapter is this in? Chapter seven.

    4. What is this normally used on? Locks and doors.

    5. What is inside the chest? More chests, candy, and homework.

He frowned at his short answers. It was unlike him to do so, but he was so exhausted...

Setting his arms on top of the table, he placed his head on top of them, tired beyond measure.

Catherine pulled out her book, wand and parchment, ready to begin working. She noted down what she had to do and opened her book to chapter seven, reading carefully, making sure not to skip wnything. She muttured "Alohomora, alohomora." under her breath as she did so, but kept quiet while practising the wand movements.

She pointed her wand at the chest and copied the movements dutifully. "Alohomora!" One of her movements was a bit jerky at the end though, and the chest gave a half-hearted rattle before subsiding. She narrowed her eyes and tried again.

It took her three more tries, but the girl eventually got the chest open. Looking at the next chest she was oddly reminded of the babushka dolls sitting on her bookshelf at home. She shook her head and returned to the task at hand.

It was smooth sailing, except for the last where she accidentally pronounced the second 'o' as an 'a' and a couple of bubbles floated out of her wand instead. She blushed, popped them and opened the last chest. Inside was a sheet of parchment entitled 'Homework' and a bag of assorted lollies.

Cat glanced at her watch, there was still a few minutes left of classtime, pulled out her quill and began to scribe in the answers to her homework.

    "Homework
    1. Incantation is what?

    Alohomora

    2. How many chests are you unlocking today?

    Five.

    3. What chapter is this in?

    Seven.

    4. What is this normally used on?

Doors are the norm, but it can be used on other things, as shown here.

    5. What is inside the chest?

Yet another four chests, and inside the final chest is our homework, with some lollies."

Nodding satisfied, Cat waved the parchment to dry the ink and munched a lolly.

    Samantha's notes and homework:

    1. Incantation is what?
The incantation of this charm is "Alohomora" roughly meaning "Friendly to thieves" in the original West African Sidiki dialect.

    2. How many chests are you unlocking today?
I unlocked five chests today, one after the other. It is also worth noting that each time, the strength of the lock increased and so the last was the hardest to open.

    3. What chapter is this in?
This charm can be found in The Standard Book of Spells by Miranda Goshawk, chapter seven.

    4. What is this normally used on?
The basic function of this charm is to unlock, be it a door, a chest or a cage. As long as there is a basic/non-modified locking mechanism in place, Alohomora can unlock it.

    5. What is inside the chest?
Inside the first chest are another four chests and inside the fifth one are two items - a bag of candy and our homework assignment for this class.

Sveta was weary of another charms lesson, as she rather foolishly sent her feather flying to the roof during her leviosa attempt.

Here goes nothing! she said to herself as she concentrated on the lock.

Alohomora she said, trying not to sound so enthusiastic. That didn't seem to help, as she found the lock on her chest shaking out of control. She tried to cover it with her hands, but that didn't seem to help. It seemed like she'd be gawked at again this class. Panicking, she flicked her wand and squeaked wingardium leviosa! She suddenly found her chest had sprung several feel in the air and hovered over her desk, still convulsing.

That's not the spell! She was mortified as she jumped on her table and tried to get her chest to stop levitating.

"Haha! I think Sveta is still practicing last week's assignment," a Gryffindor howled in laughter.

Sveta glared at them while she somehow managed to get her chest back in place. She tried to ignore the other students laughter.

After a minute, she tried the correct spell again. alohomora she said, moving her wand slowly. This time, she heard something twitching inside the lock, with it shuddering less. She tried another two times before she finally got the first chest open.

"Phew!" she grinned, wiping the sweat off her brow. She looked around the class, most of the students still on the same step as her. At least she wasn't the only one having difficulty.

After another hour, she had managed to get all 5 chests open. She slouched in her chair and eagerly opened her bag of candy, relaxing. She had several pieces before she started her assignment.

    Homework
    1. Incantation is what?

    Alohomora- the unlocking charm

    2. How many chests are you unlocking today?

    Five.

    3. What chapter is this in?

    Seven

    4. What is this normally used on?

Doors, but it can be used on any lock.

    5. What is inside the chest?

4 more chests, and then some candies in the last chest.

Satisfied, she handed in the homework to Professor Williams. The Professor smiled slyly, but didn't say anything, much to Sveta's relief. She wondered if her parents had been this bad at charms when they went to school....

Jennifer listened closely. She took notes and muttered the charm a few times to get the feel of the word. Then when the professor had told them to begin, she looked down at her chest and gulped. She could do this. Charms were only difficult if you thought they were. It was all psycological...or so she told herself. She picked up her wand and said "Alohomora!" The chest unlocked. Jennifer almost dropped her wand in surprise. She didn't think it would work. Maybe she wasn't as bad as she thought she was. She continued (slowly, just in case) to open the other chests. In the last one she found a baggie of Honeydukes chocolate. Professor Williams just might be her favorite.

Jen decided that she loved Charms class. How fun. We have to do the magic in order to see what's inside. "Fascinating!" she whispered excitedly to herself. She couldn't wait to write her sisters and tell them all the wonderful experiences she was having at Hogwarts. In the meantime, she turned to chapter 7 and skimmed the chapter, vowing to read it more thoroughly later that night. She tried the unlocking charm, concentrating with all her might and thinking of what the professor just discussed, as well as what she saw in chapter 7. "Alohomora!" It worked. Charms really was an amazing class.

Zoe pointed her wand at the largest trunk. Alohamora She said, then repeated the charm three more times. Opening the bag she took one out and popped it in her mouth.

Alice listened intently writing down the new incantation and uses copying some information from the book. She couldn't wait to learn more about the locking charm in their second year. She had always been mainly fascinated at the contraptions used by muggles to open doors though. She moved her mind back to the practice waving her wand and saying in a decently loud voice, "Alohomora". The first chest opened and she smiled to herself proud of the accomplishment, she repeated the process until she was down to the last chest. "Alohomora", she said but frowned when the last chest did not unlock, she focused completely on the lock and her movements as she repeated once more, "Alohomora". The chest popped open with the bag of candy and her homework.

Mary came in the classroom a bit late and hoped professor wouldn't notice or just wouldn't duck point from Slytherin. She got lost in the big castle again... She noticed Casi was in the class aswell and sat down near her. She hasn't seen her ever since the beginning of the term. She smiled at her and then did what the rest of the class was doing. They seemed to be unlocking a chest with "Alohomora". Great, I won't have to use Muggle hairclips to unlock the door anymore"she thought to herself enthusiasticly.
She determendly looked at the chest and pulled the wand out of her pocket.
"Alohomora!" nothing happened. She frowned and tried again. Still nothing happened. "Oh, come one!" she grunted at the chest's lock. She tried once more, but the foggy thing still wouldn't open.

Korsha grinned. An unlocking charm, Eh? That would come in handy. She looked at her chests, fingering her wand nervously. Korsha licked her lips, and said the incantation, Alohomora. Nothing happened. Stop acting like a coward! Maybe some backbone would help! She scolded herself. Breathing deeply, she did the incantation again, while picturing the mechanisms inside the lock, turning and opening. It clicked open.

She opened the next chess, though, it was a little harder. Ditto with the next 4. Finally, she opened the last chest to find a......Glass of water? Korshas eyebrows furrowed togther. Oh well. She thought, and drank it.

Skye stared at the chest in front of her, as if she was trying to open it with her eyes. Of course, there was no such luck. She had read on the unlocking charm before - and she sure as hell knew how to do it, but she found a sick pleasure in watching her classmates try to do it first.

Apparently, though, later, she got bored and tried to do it for herself. Shouldn't hurt to get it wrong on the first try, right?

    "Alohamora."

The thing opened. With a smirk, Skye proceeded to open the rest of the chests.

Lauren was smiling as she walked into the charms classroom. This was one of her favourite subjects and was eagerly awaiting what they were going to learn today. As the lesson went on, it was clear to Lauren that they were going to be practicing the Alohomora charm, or the unlocking charm. This spell could come in handy, in the future, Lauren thought as she took notes on the spell and how to cast it.

When it came time to practice the spell on the chest in front of her, Lauren was nervous, but determined to get this spell right. She picked up her wand and pointed it at the chest. Alohomora Lauren said but nothing happened. Lauren concentrated and repeated the phrase and then pointed her wand to the chest's lock instead of just the chest. An audible click could be heard. Yay! Lauren thought to herself, and went on to the other chest inside this big one.

The final chest was upon Lauren and she stared at it with grim determination. Alohomora Lauren said and with a flick of her wand, the chest opened. She lifted the lid and found that there was parchment in there, and a bag of candy. Yum! Lauren thought. Shame about the homework though, she thought as she turned over the parchment to find homework there.

    Homework
    1. Incantation is what?

    Alohomora or the unlocking charm

    2. How many chests are you unlocking today?

Five, including the original chest and the four others inside.

    3. What chapter is this in?

Chapter 7 of The Standard Book of Spells (Grade One)

    4. What is this normally used on?

The charm, Alohomora is usually used to unlock locked doors but can be used to unlock chests too.

    5. What is inside the chest?

The original chest had four other chests within, and then within one of the other chests, there was a piece of parchment with homework set on it, and a bag of candy.

Mary looked around to see how others were doing. They all seemed to be unlocking that chest with no problems. Her brow furrowed. Okay, let's try again.she thought, determined to get the spell right.
"Alohomora!" she said while focusing on the lock.
It opened! Mary beamed at the open chest, but then saw there was another one inside. She sighed and once again focused on getting the chest to open. This time it opened right away. Victory would be sweet if there wasn't another, smaller chest inside. She scowled at it for few seconds, but then pointed her wand at the lock and said incantation again.
    She groaned. Another chest.
"Alohomora!" The smallest chest opened and Mary saw with pleasure there weren't any more chests to unlock. Instead, there was a bag of candy and a parchment. Smiling, Mary put sweets into her bag and rolled down the parchment. Homework, great she thought sarcastically.

Dixie sighed as she listened to the professor teach, and took the occasional note every now and then. She decided to just go ahead and practice Alohomora, and she pulled her wand out if the front pocket of her robe. Dixie pushed up her sleeves and discreetly put on the saftey goggles she wore when practicing Transfiguration or Charms. After an explosion and fire or two, she wasn't willing to risk anything. Pointing the tip at the lock, she said "Alohomora." Squeezing her eyes tightly closed, she felt magic course through her arm and through her wand. Peeping out of an eye, she looked at the locked lock, still of course, locked.
She couldn't open the first lock, let alone all four of them.
She wasn't the only who failed at their first time, but she was still a bit disappointed. Dixie tried once more. And miraculously, it worked. Grinning, she took off her goggles, and tried the third chest. "Alohomora!"
The moment sparks appeared, Dixies grin sagged, and she jammed on her goggles. Maybe she was getting bit cocky. After repeating the charm a few more times, she finally managed to pry open the last chest that was partially locked, Dixie found a baggie of candy and a paper. Unfolding it, she frowned. Homework. She may as well just do the HW. Pulling out her ink bottle, sugar quill, and parchment, she dipped her quill in the bottle, and began to scrawl out:

    Dixie Evans
    7/20/30
    Charms HW

    1) Alohomora
    2) Five chests
    3) Chapter Seven
    4) Normally is used on locked doors
    5) Inside of the first chest are three more. Inside of the last one is a bag of candy.

Alexandra finished listening to her Head of House and Charms teacher's instructions. She picked up her wand off her desk and looked at the chest thoughtfully. She knew that this was her first time trying the spell and was therefore likely to be difficult. Not looking at what anyone else was doing, she closed her eyes and visualized the chest unlocking, which was a method she found useful for all her spells.

"Alohomora," said Alexandra. The lock turned halfheartedly and then fell back into being locked. Frowning, Alexandra said the incantation again. "Alohomora," she whispered again, and this time the lock clicked open.

Smiling, Alexandra turned her attention to the next chest.

Ecstatic to be learning a new charm, Jenny flipped to chapter 7 immediately after her professor was done giving her lesson. She read the chapter carefully, writing key points on a piece of parchment. Ready to give it a go, and curious to see what was inside, Jenny whipped out her wand. She cleared her throat to try to clear her head, no matter how illogical it sounded, and directed her wand at the lock.

"Alohamora!" she grinned as the chest made a distinct click. She straightened up and repeated the spell thrice. Inside the last chest was a bag of candy and her homework assignment. She immediately reached for the homework and gave it a read with hungry eyes. Once she had created an image in her mind of what she was to do later, she reached for the bag of candy and popped a ginger candy in her mouth. She adored ginger. Jenny grabbed a piece of parchment and tagged it with perfect script.

    1. The incantation is Alohamora

    2. I unlocked four chests.

    3. We are studying chapter 7.

    4. Alohamora is commonly used to unlock doors.

    5. Inside the fourth chest was my homework and a bag of candy.

Jenny finished by writing her name neatly in the corner of the paper and smiled at her accomplishment.

Phoebe couldn't wait to start class. Harmony had been giving her tips on her Charms Homework and so far, she has progressed quickly. She had completely mastered last weeks levitation spell and was quite pleased with herself. Closing her eyes and concentrating on the chest in front of her, she pointed her wand, flicked, and cried, "Alohomora!" Nothing happened. She tried again, this time with more pronunciation and a little louder. "Alohomora!" The first locked clicked and opened. Phoebe was jazzed. She repeated the spell four more times.

    Click! Click! Click! Click!

Phoebe was elated to find the bag of candy at the bottom as well as her homework assignment. She was also proud to be one of the first students to finish this lesson rather than one of the lasts. Now to do her homework.

Artemis rushed to her seat, smiling as she realized she knew this.Alohomora was basic...she had read about it in her Charms textbook, and practiced several times before boarding the train to Hogwarts.

She withdrew her wand, and cleared her throat.
    Pointing at the chest, "Alohomora!"
The first one clicked open, she opened 3 more-after a tad of verbal stumbling with the second and was surprised to find a bag of muggle Jolly-Ranchers at the bottom along with a sheet of Parchment which could only be her homework.

She nodded a thanks to Professor WIlliams before getting started. Popping a watermelon into her mouth, she began scrawling her answers down.

After opening her first trunk, Alexandra pointed her wand at the next one. "Alohomora," she said firmly, and was delighted when the next trunk opened. She did this on the remaining two trunks. Once more a lock gave a feeble wiggle, but she tried again and got them open.

Soon the last trunk was open and she reached down into it, pulling out a bag and a piece of parchment. Looking at the bag, she found out it was filled with mugggle candy, specifically tootsie pops. Smiling, Alexandra unwrapped a cherry one and started sucking on it as she turned to her homework and pulled a quill and ink out of her bag.

Irene knew that casting spells was easier for her than she had noticed it was for other students, so she lazily waved her wand and muttered, "Alohomora," and nothing happened. Irene had listened carefully, but her failure inspired her to read Chapter Seven of the book just in case. This time, with more conviction (and a touch of nervousness, what if it didn't work again?) she clearly pronounced the incantation and waved her want accordingly. The lock clicked open and revealed another chest. With a happy smile she continued the practice, making sure not to get lazy with her spellwork. Finally she reached a chest full of candy, she grabbed it giddily and stowed it in her school bag.
    1. Incantation is what?
    Alohomora, the unlocking charm.
    2. How many chests are you unlocking today?
    Five chests total.
    3. What chapter is this in?
    Chapter Seven of the book.
    4. What is this normally used on?
The charm is nornally used to unlock doors.
    5. What is inside the chest?

Yuki listened to what the professor was saying thinking that it sounded a bit harder than what their last lesson had been. All the same she would try her best at it. She muttered "Alohomora" to her self a few times before trying it on the chest. She then pointed her wand at the chest and said "Alohomora" clearly but nothing seemed to happen. She then tried the spell again and this time she man\aged to open it and reveal another smaller chest inside. She then continued to open the chests which eventually revealed a bag of sweets and her homework. She took them both out the chest and went to do her homework.
