Irene took a deep breath as she walked into the classroom. She could tell that she was going to love the class with just one glance around the room. There was sunlight streaming through the windows and dust moving lazily through the air.
"Wingardium Leviosa." She murmured, not fully focusing. Her feather stirred feebly.
"Wingardium Leviosa." She tried again, this time closing her eyes. She was calm, serene, but focused. She moved her wand a little, shocked to see the feather mirroring her movements.
"I got it!" She smiled, but after announcing her success, she broke her concentration and the feather drifted back down.

Finally, after several attempts, Lee got her feather off the desk a few inches. She squealed to herself, excited, but the feather dropped due to the lack of concentrate. Carlee giggled and performed the spell again and again.

It was the first piece of magic she had learnt, and she was very excited.

Zoe practiced the wand movements before trying it out on her object.

Lawrence sat quietly next to Raven, wondering idly about the feathers strewn about. He blinks in some amazement as the teacher sends the basketball flying without touching it.

Lawrence looks a bit thoughtful as the teacher talks about physics. When it is time to begin practicing, Lawrence sets his wand down and picks up the feather. He places the feather in his hand and begins blowing gently on it. With each breath he blows just a tiny bit harder until the feather starts to lift from his palm. He grins and nods to himself before setting the feather back down and picking up his wand.

With a swish and flick, he intones "Wingardium Leviosa" in a soft voice. Gently the feather lifts and follows his wand where he slowly moves it. He concentrates on his magic and visualizes sending it through his wand so that the feather moves away from it.

Unfortunately he over estimates what he was trying to do and the feather gently hits the back of Pete's head. Lawrence's eyes widen as if to say Oops, and he quickly picks up his quill to complete his homework. It was just a feather... maybe Pete won't notice.

Once I did that I visualized using my magic to create that force. It appeared to work as long as I was able to concentrate on it.

After letting the ink dry, Lawrence rolls up the parchment and walks it to the teachers desk.

When told to begin trying the charm Lizzie pulled out her wand and attempted the spell. She got it after a few tries. When she was done she began her homework.

Phoebe pulled out her wand and marvelled at the feather, as it if was not a feather but something of value. She had been levitating things off and on since she was seven (though not consistently--just whenever she was in desperate need of something), but now she was going to make it happen. She held up her wand and practiced the swish and flick, closing her eyes as she did and probably looking stupid. When she was ready, she pointed her wand at the feather and cried, "Wingardium Leviosa!" Nothing happened. Well, that was a dud. She tried again, emphasizing each syllable. Nope, still nothing. She began to question her magic abilities and she sat down and began the homework instead.

Avneett looks at the Professor as she speaks, muttering the spell under her breath.

Mary was listening to professor carefully, she didn't want to miss anything. When prof. Williams ordered them to work, she did.
She looked at he feather and was quite frightened with what they want her to do. No object can fly on it's own. But then again, a needle can't just turn into a matchstick and she's done that!
She sighed, deciding she'll give the spell a chance.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" she swished and flicked, yet nothing happened.
On her second try, however, she was fascinated how her feather lifted and actually stayed up there for a while. She smiled contently and proceeded to her homework.

Then she decided to put them together.

Helexia could have screamed in frustration. 'Okay, Okay,'she thought, 'Don't panic.'

She looked around the room to see what everyone was doing. It was then she noticed that they weren't making grand a motion as she was.

With this in mind she tried it again. "Wingardium Leviosa," she murmured. Still nothing.

She started to get frustrated. "Wingardium Leviosa." In her agitation she said it louder and more confidently than before, and to her surprise the feather started to float.

Nick stumbled into the classroom, later than usual. He hoped Prof. Hunt wouldn't mind. He sat himself down as he tried to catch up on the basics of the Wingardium Leviosa charm.

He grabbed his hazel wand and he flicked his wand while muttering 'Wingardium Leviosa'. To his complete surprising the feather floated a few inches above his desk. With a cheer, he dropped his wand and continued to practice more.

"It was just a fluke," he muttered after his eight try. "Wingardium Leviosa!" With a smile of relief, He looked as the feather started floating again.

A big grin was on his face as he started his homework.

The charm studied today on ths very first lesson was the Levitation charm aka learning how to make objects float/fly and even travel certain distances vertically and horizontally in some cases.

Physics has to do with forces and motion. Anything on which force can be applied (to stop it, make it move, slow it down, speed it up) is considered physics. The application of physics are universal - meaning the laws work just as they do in the Muggle world as they do in the Wizarding world. (with the sole exception that wizards have learned to manipulate said laws better but Muggle science and machinery is not very far behind)

As mentioned above, physic deals with force and moving/halting an object in it's track. Charms is all about manipulating an object or properties of said object In this case, physics simply applies because the students are required to move a feather from one place to another (or in a direct upward motion in a single position) by way of levitation.

Entering the classroom, Indiana took a seat before listening to Professor Williams talk on today's lession. It was a moment later that the professor demonstrate the Levitation Charm before everyone in the class were given their turn.

Taking his wand out, Indiana followed the SWISH and FLICK movement before chanting "Wingardium Leviosa." The feather slightly moved a fraction off the desk for a moment before settling down. Not much for a first try and Indiana took a deep breath, thinking that the form of movement might have been the reason.

After three more tries with some progress being made, Indiana finally achieved the desired result as the feather began to rise into the air before deciding to deal with the homework.

"Perfect," Lily whispered, and started on her homework.

Sat in the back, wondering where in the class any of her friends were- she'd not thought to remember the back of their heads- she paid undiluted attention to her head of year and charms teacher, and eagerly fished out her wand from her bag, stroking the base. She could feel the magic, now. "Wingardium Leviosa!"
"Excellant," she whispered, amazed as it rose to above her head, almost as high as the rest of the class'.

Almost as soon as she sat down Professor Williams started explaining the charm they would be learning. She listened intently to what she was saying before the class were told to try it themselves. She collected one of the feathers and said "Wingardium Leviosa" and the feather floated just a few inches off the table before falling back down again. I can do better than this she thought to her self before repeating "Wingardium Leviosa" and this time the feather floated a few feat above her head and stayed in place a while longer.

She had her arms crossed and was about three seconds from throwing the poor feather on the floor and stomping on it. "Swish and flick." Chandlure muttered under her breath. Taking her wand she swished and she flicked a few times. "Wingardium Leviosa," she muttered pointing to the feather.

She dropped her wand as people shouted out in shock, "Well at least I did it." Chandlure looked up and snickered as she saw that she accidentally lifted the desk instead of the feather with her spell. "Terribly sorry guys."

As the Professor began to teach Louise listened intently, following the references to Physics with a little difficulty. While she had been taught Muggle science she'd never paid attention, assmumg, wrongly it appeared, that it would have no bearing on magic.

When told to work she focused intently on her feather, but having failed to make an impact with all the swishing a flicking in the world she watched her fellow students carefully. Ah, that Ravenclaw over there was successful. She followed her actions as precisely as she could.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" She swished, flicked and got the tiniest movement from her feather. She shrugged it was a start.

Kassie stared in awe as the basketball bounced to the back of the room, and stopped on the floor suddenly. After the Professor gave the instructions, Kassie stared the feather down before muttering "Wingardium Leviosa". By the fourth time, and with her actually saying the charm instead of mumbling it, she managed to get the feather to move at her command. Grinning, she put the feather down, pulled out parchment and began to do her homework.

Allen smiled devilishly. This should be simple. "Wingardium Leviosa." He stated. The feather didn't even twitch. Allen grumbled, his cheeks red hoping that no one had saw.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" He tried. The feather than floated but came crashing down once he got it past 10 centimeters. He would have to practice this one, Allen noted grudgingly.

Unknowingly, Sveta had experience with leviosa when she was growing up. She used to unintentionally make herself float, sometimes ending up upside-down. She hoped that she could finally learn to control her leviosa abilities with the charm.

Wingardium Leviosa! she said, enthusiastically with a flick of her wrist. Unlike her experience with the needle, the opposite effect happened as she was surprised to find her feather shot up to the ceiling. She blushed as students giggled at her and her lost feather, which wasn't budging.

"Uh, Professor," she said timidly, "I think I need a new feather."

Smiling, Professor Williams, with no effort at all, floated a new feather to Sveta's desk. "A little more gently next time, Ms. Romanov," she said.

Sveta nodded and tried the spell with a little less enthusiasm. The second time, Sveta's feather shot up only halfway to the ceiling and somehow managed to come down. Sveta felt a lot more confident the third time, as she was able to levitate her feather for several seconds a foot above her desk. Delighted, she started the homework.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" She said while swish-and-flicking her wand. The feather gracefully flew into the air and swirled around before her very eyes. "Spectacular!" She exclaimed, grinning.

Korsha stared down at the feather, confidence and apprehension residing in her chest. She breathed out, before picking up her wand, and casting the 'swish and flick' while saying 'wingardium leviosa'.

Nothing.

So, she tried again. and the feather floated!

Alycia listened to the professor and stared at her feather. She flicked her wand and swished. Nothing happen. She said the spell and stared stupidly at the feather. She tried them together. The feather still didn't move. She sighed. Alycia concentrated on trying to make the feather fly, she swished and flicked her wand and said the spell at the same time. The feather moved! Maybe it didn't float all the way but it moved! She tried again and the feather floated just a bit more. She beamed.
